Path Conditions
The starting point of the route is the Sandten car park (1,100 m). From here, follow path 401A towards the Riemannhaus. The trail initially gently ascends over blooming alpine meadows and opens up beautiful views of the Steinerner Meer. After a while, you reach a steeper rock step – here the terrain becomes rockier and more demanding. The route continues to the valley station of the material cable car (1,594 m), which offers an ideal resting place with a breathtaking panorama of Maria Alm and the surrounding peaks. The last section of the route requires surefootedness, alpine experience, and a head for heights: over secured rocks and switchbacks, you steadily climb uphill until you finally reach the imposing Riemannhaus – spectacularly built into the rocks. Those with remaining energy can from here climb Sommerstein (2,306 m) and enjoy the impressive 360-degree view. The return route follows the same path. Since the route gets plenty of sun already in the morning, an early start is recommended.
