Pilgrim's way to the Königssee

Pilgrim's way to the Königssee

You start directly in the center of Maria Alm. From there, you walk past the Gasthof Niederreiter and through the Grießbachwinkl to the Sandten. You can also drive here by car. Then you continue hiking along the gravel path to the cable car station. The alpine trail starts here (surefootedness and freedom from dizziness are required). Picturesquely, you wind through a rock gully with a view of the Sommerstein, which in its shape resembles the face of an owl. You repeatedly use iron rungs and ropes to aid the ascent. After about 4 hours, you reach the Riemannhaus. From there, we cross the limestone plateau via the Salzburger Kreuz. In steady ups and downs, without many altitude meters, after about 2 hours you reach the dwarf pine zone and can already see the Kärlingerhaus at the Funtensee in the distance. Passing the Kärlingerhaus, it first goes slightly uphill before you hike towards the Saugasse with a view of the Watzmanngrat. The Saugasse has more than 30 hairpin bends and leads you in 4 hours to the St. Bartholomä peninsula. To reach the mainland of the municipality Schönau am Königssee, take the electric boats of the Bavarian lake shipping company. Please check the current timetable here! There are return options with public transport and overnight accommodations at the Riemannhaus and Kärlingerhaus. You can find dining options at the Riemannhaus and Kärlingerhaus.
