ON THE TRAIL OF HERBS via Steinbockalm to Mußbachalm

Your hike begins at the parking lot of the Hochmaisbahn. From there, start to the right behind the Raiffeisenbank building and follow a narrow path that leads you over a small crossing onto the hiking trail. With a steady ascent, you reach the Hochmaisalm and continue your way uphill to the Steinbockalm (Kräuteralm). Once at the top, you are rewarded with an impressive panoramic view that more than makes up for the effort of the climb. From the Steinbockalm, your path leads slightly downhill, past the Gabühelhütte. You then continue along meadows and forest trails until you reach the Filzensattel. Here, you cross the Hochkönig main road and ascend to the Pichlalm. From the Pichlalm, keep to the left and follow a narrow, partly root-covered trail through varied terrain. This section requires some surefootedness but offers beautiful views. Finally, you reach the Mußbachalm (another Kräuteralm), where you can take a final break. The descent to Hinterthal takes about 20 minutes, leading you to the village church. From there, it’s another 15 minutes back to the parking lot of the Hochmaisbahn, where your circular hike ends.
