Path Conditions

The HK3-PANORAMA Trail starts at the Natrunbahn parking lot in Maria Alm. From there, you immediately take path no. 26 up to the Natrun. Once at the top, you reach the Jufenalm, which with its wildlife enclosure and the view into the valley is the first highlight of the route.

From there, the trail continues to the Prinzensee on path no. 401A, a small mountain lake in a dreamlike setting, before you pass the Tom Alm hut. Then follows a steep descent back to the valley where you reach the town of Maria Alm.

At the entrance to the town, the route crosses the main road towards Unterberg, from where the next big ascent on path no. 11,28 begins – up to the Aberg. You follow a steadily ascending path (path no. 445), past the Schranbachalm (unmanaged), until you finally reach the scenic summit plateau of the Hundstein, at 2,117 m the highest point of the tour. In good weather, a 360° panorama of the Hohe Tauern, the Hochkönig, and the Stone Sea can be seen here.

The trail now continues along the ridge to the Schwalbenwand on path no. 446, a popular hiking destination with a gentle ridge course. From there begins the long descent across the alpine pastures of Hinterreit, where the terrain opens up again and the view of Maria Alm becomes free.

The last kilometers run along wide paths and meadow trails back into the valley. Finally, you reach the starting point again at the Natrunbahn parking lot in Maria Alm.
