Hike to the Friedenskapelle Maria Alm

Hike to the Friedenskapelle Maria Alm

The Friedenskapelle is located above Maria Alm, hidden in the forest, and can only be reached via a narrow hiking trail. This small, modern chapel offers space for a maximum of 30 people. It is surrounded by a small square with benches inviting one to pause. The path initially runs along the street out of the village. The ascent to the Friedenskapelle goes partly through narrow and steep switchbacks and includes some stair steps.

Path Conditions

The hike starts at the Service Center Maria Alm. From there, you walk to the village entrance (keep right), past the Hochkönigkrone. Use the underpass at the federal highway and then go up Schlossberg via path no. 27. At the first curve, a hiking trail branches off to the right, leading you to the Friedenskapelle. At first, it runs gently through the forest but soon ascends. Further on, it becomes steeper and you continue upwards over switchbacks. Along the way, individual steps have to be overcome repeatedly. At a signposted junction, turn right and ascend a bit more to the Friedenskapelle, which lies in the forest. A wooden path leads you to the back of the chapel, and benches invite you to linger. The chapel is open year-round but only during the day. The return path is the same as the way there. As a variant, you can continue over Schlossberg and return to Maria Alm via path no. 27.
