Via Alpina 3rd stage
The Via Alpina is a cross-border hiking trail that leads from Trieste to Monaco. On its five routes, you cross the eight Alpine countries: Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, and Monaco. Three of the total 342 day stages run through the Hochkönig region.

Path Conditions
We hike back to Rohrmoosbauer (path no. 65/66) – alternatively, there is also the possibility to take the hiking bus towards Maria Alm to the Alpinpark stop. From Rohrmoosbauer, we head towards Pichlalm (path no. 67) and return to the long-distance hiking trail no. 401A/436. Past Pichlalm, we take a meadow path through very wet alpine pastures into a forested area and on a rooty trail through some ravines and gorges. After about half an hour, we reach a wide hiking trail again, which shortly thereafter leads steeply downhill towards Hinterthal – passing Mußbachalm and Aueralm. We hike along the Hochkönigstraße through Hinterthal, cross the Hochkönig federal road, and reach the Hochmaisalm cable car. We cross the parking lot and finally reach an idyllic hiking trail along the Urslau until we reach the Hochkönig federal road again. We follow the federal road a short distance again towards Hinterthal and finally turn left onto the farm road to Pichlbauer. Passing the farmhouse, we first hike on a meadow path and then again on a hiking trail briefly uphill until we reach Jufensattel and the mountain hotel/restaurant Jufenalm. The path leads past Jufenalm, a short stretch along Jufenstraße, and after a wooden garage we take the forest adventure trail to the right.
After the 3rd station of the themed trail, we keep right and follow the Natrunhöhenweg (path no. 401A/436) steeply uphill. A rooty path leads us through forest, across open clearings with wonderful views over Natrunhöhe and after about half an hour back to the forest adventure trail. We follow the trail past several stations of the forest high ropes course to the mountain station of the Natrunbahn. Past the station, we descend steeply (path no. 401A) from Natrun with a beautiful view of Maria Alm down into the village. The Natrunbahn makes the descent easier.
