Königstour: BIKE big - Day 1 from Maria Alm to Mühlbach

The Königstour BIKE-BIG is a demanding mountain bike route that leads through the impressive Hochkönig massif. With a total length of 53.5 kilometers and almost 2,000 meters of ascent, the first stage already requires very good fitness and advanced riding skills. The varied route consists of forest roads, steep climbs, panoramic high routes, and flowing trails. Some sections are technically challenging, so it might occasionally be necessary to push the bike.

Path Conditions

Start in the center of Maria Alm. You take the Natrunbahn up to the mountain station – first checkpoint!

From here the route leads to the Prinzensee – perfect for a short break with a stunning view. Then continue over the Jufen Rosa Trail (easy gravel path) to the Jufenalm.

The descent to the valley runs along the winter toboggan run. At the bottom, briefly head back towards Krallerwinkel, then right towards Primbach (signposted MA08).

On asphalt and forest road, head up to the Primbachsattel – or choose the more sporty option via the twoway Wawi Trail. Arrived at the top: checkpoint!

A simple northshore element awaits before you plunge onto a winding gravel trail towards Hinterthal.

In the charming village center of Hinterthal – checkpoint! – turn right to the Aueralm. Shortly afterwards, there is a creek crossing (25 m pushing section).

500 m later you reach the B164, which you follow to the Filzensattel. There you turn right onto the Grüneggweg.

Above the Grüneggalm follow the mountain farmer round no. 6. After crossing the state road L216, continue towards the Schwarzenbachtalrunde.

Via the Moosalm, you climb up to the Sulzbühel, where you turn onto the new connecting path to the Wastlhöhe. Checkpoint!

Now it gets technical: continue to the Nani & Mariedl Trails (S2 – natural and challenging). Those who prefer it quieter can switch to the forest road along the way.

At the bottom, turn right onto the B164 and ride to the Dientner Sattel. Past Dientalm and Zapferlalm, it goes downhill to Mühlbach – checkpoint reached!

Day 1 – done.
