Path Conditions

Your adventure begins at Filzensattel (Hochmaisalm bus stop). Here, you’ll be immersed in the tranquillity of the spruce forest: the wide footpath no. 34 invites you to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind, watch the squirrels and listen to the birdsong in the forest.

After about 30 leisurely minutes, you’ll see the Hochmaisalm on your right. However, keep to the left and follow trail no. 35 towards the Steinbockalm. Now it gets a bit more challenging: a brisk, hour-long climb takes you through the cool forest until, just before the finish, the wide alpine meadows open up. The reward? The finest herbal specialities and a panorama that is best enjoyed in the swing park right next to the hut.

The return journey is pure pleasure. Downhill, trail no. 51a leads you to the Gabühelhütte, where you simply must try the homemade goat’s cheese and herb delicacies. With the Hochkönig massif behind you, you’ll finally hike back in a relaxed manner along forest paths (Nos. 51a, 51 and 50) to the starting point at the Filzensattel.
